Cheryl Vogelpohl Barnard, CHA, ARIA
Cheryl was born in Little Rock and like so many of our young students was "horse crazy" as a little girl. A birthday present at age 10 started it all. With the purchase of a 6 week old Arabian/Tennesse Walker named Khydja, Cheryl finally had her first horse. The family purchased three more horses over the next few years and Cheryl began to become an expert trail rider.
At age 15, she rode her bicycle down to Applewood Riding stables and started volunteering to clean stalls and brushing horses at the Hunter/Jumper stable. After high school she attended Loyola University in New Orleans and volunteered to work with horses at the Audobon Park. After the ranch moved to it's current location, Cheri moved into the barn's apartment so she could continue to work with the horses and more actively train to compete in Dressage while she finished law school at UALR and started practicing law.
Cheryl combined her passion for the law and horsemanship by training and serving as a member of the Pulaski County Sheriff's office mounted patrol. During that training, she attended the famed New Orleans mounted officer training academy and learned advanced horsemanship techniques for keeping a horse calm and remaining mounted (even in a riot).
In 2000, Cheryl decided to make her passion her full time career. Although she continues to practice equine law on a consultative basis, she new spends her time training horses and teaching horsemanship to new and experienced riders.
Cheryl is certified by Certified Horsemanship Association and the American Riding Association. Her certification and continuing education insures that she is always able to provide the highest level and safest instruction for her students.
She continues to actively train and compete in local and regional dressage shows and has served as a past president for the Arkansas Dressage Federation.
