Arkansas Dressage Society

The Arkansas Dressage Society (ADS) is a nonprofit member organization of the United States Dressage Federation.  ADS is dedicated to the sport of dressage.

Our dressage shows are located within an hour's drive of Little Rock.    We sponsor 5-6 schooling shows per year.   We also sponsor two one-day rated shows  (plus a breed show) over the last weekend in April at Diamond TR's fabulous new covered arena.

Additionally, we help sponsor rated shows in Tunica, Mississippi, hosted by our Memphis neighbor, the Delta Dressage Association.  Tunica is less than three hours drive from Little Rock.

Our show season runs from March through October, wrapped-up with a dynamite awards banquet and silent auction in January.  The Arkansas Dressage Society is available to all equine enthusiasts and sponsors whether or not you ride.   We invite you to join us.  Click here for a 2007 Membership Form.  For more information, visit "Join ADS" under the main menu. Murdoch Method

The Murdoch Method® is a dynamic, continuously evolving and highly fluid method of education of both horse and rider in equestrian skills, for all disciplines. The Method attempts to use the most up-to-date information in science and technology combined with traditional knowledge, information and wisdom. The Murdoch Method is not a system of riding; it is a process for learning.

Feldenkrais Method

Horseback riding, like other sports, demands coordination, timing and direction. The Feldenkrais Method® lends itself beautifully to improving equestrian skills for many reasons..Bill Hutchinson, a Feldenkrais® practitioner in Massachusetts, has been working with riders, helping them to learn how to ride better.

He says, “Many riders get caught in the trap of struggling with their horse, showing him ‘who is boss’—which is counter productive.” Feldenkrais lessons show the rider how to be with the horse, as a single, intelligent unit.

Horses respond to messages or directives from the feet, legs, back, arms and hands. These signals must be precise. Often riders give mixed messages which confuse the horse. For instance, the rider must learn to deliver a message with only one leg with no participation by the other leg or hip. In Feldenkrais lessons, the rider learns how to be more focused and precise.

American Riding Instructors Association

Promoting safe, knowledgeable riding instruction

The American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA) was established in 1984 to help promote safe, knowledgeable riding instruction.

ARIA's official quarterly magazine, Riding Instructor, keeps its member instructors well-informed of matters pertaining to their profession.

One of ARIA's most successful means of meeting its goals has been to encourage instructors to attend its American Riding Instructor Certification Program (ARICP).

ARICP Certification is meant for the serious, above-average instructor who teaches safely and in a professional, competent manner, with high standards of honesty and integrity.

ARICP certification testing is held at various locations throughout the country. Or, when a group of at least six instructors at a single location desire ARICP Certification, special arrangements can be made for testing at their location. It is also possible to test individually by appointment at the ARICP office in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Certified Instructors have nationally recognized credentials, improved employment prospects and are listed in the nationally distributed ARICP Directory of Certified Riding Instructors.

Certified Horsemanship Association
