A note on Natural pest control

At Diamond TR Ranch, we believe in minimizing the chemicals that we use in our facility.  It is better for the horses, visitors, and the environment.  We utilize a combination of Guinea Fowl, Bantam Chickens, and barn cats.  Guinea Fowl originated in Africa and are used on farms across the US for pest control.  They roam throughout the property and eat ticks and insects.   Although guinea fowl are excellent at pest control, they rarely scratch.   The chickens are excellent at breaking down manure piles in the fields as well as picking up any grain that spills in the barn or passes through in manure.  This action has the combined benefits of helping to control flies as well as breaking the life cycle of parasites such as intestinal worms of horses.  And last but not least, we employee barn cats to help keep the barn free of rodents.   Horses acclimate quickly to this natural form of pest control at Diamond Tr.
